WSSO Board of Trustees

allan hewitt wsso trust chairChairman, Dr Allan Hewitt

Dr. Hewitt is Course Leader for the BSc Sport and Physical Activity degree at the University of Strathclyde having previously worked as Head of Creative & Aesthetic Studies and as Principal Teacher of Music in Greenock High School, Inverclyde.  He maintains an interest in Music Psychology and Music Education through positions as Assistant Editor of the journal Psychology of Music and as Associate Editor of the journal Music, Technology and Education.

It’s a great honour to be taking on the role of Chair of the WSSO Trust.  The activities provided are extensive and impactful and we have clear empirical evidence of the positive effects that participation can have, not only on the musical skill and knowledge of our musicians, but on their interpersonal, social, and cognitive skills. Lifelong friendships are established, alongside a lifelong passion for music.

I am excited for the future of West. We have a tremendous legacy and, perhaps more importantly, an effective and sustainable platform for the future. We have a dedicated and talented team; managers, course directors, musical directors and tutors who share our values of high quality performance, challenging and rewarding rehearsals and concerts, fun, and the thrill of making live music together.

I look forward to many more years providing these opportunities.
